APPSC Online Preparation

State Public Service Commissions (PSC) are formed by the Government of India to recruit the right individuals for several administrative jobs. State PSCs conduct specialized exams as per the vacancies and requirements. Similarly, the State Government of Andhra Pradesh conducts the APPSC examinations to enroll candidates into various jobs, such as Commercial Tax Officers, District Registrars, Deputy Collectors, AEE, etc. AspireBuzz offers comprehensive study package series for APPSC aspirants providing them with online mock tests, study syllabus material on current affairs, engineering, etc in the Telugu language.
The examination is conducted in three patterns, i.e., APPSC Group 1 test series, Group2, Group 3, and Group 4. The APPSC examination phase follows a specific order – Preliminary Examination, then Mains Examinations, and finally, the Interview. As the number of candidates competing for the jobs is higher than the vacancies, your APPSC preparation strategy must be on point. You need to be well aware of the syllabus, question patterns, books you need to refer, and the time you have in hand to give your best. Also, you must go through mock APPSC online exams to have a fair idea about the type of questions that you will face in the actual exam. Know More

APPSC 2020 Preparation and Tips

What is APPSC?

Government job options have become quite popular lately, and the demand has seen a consistent increase, almost every day. To enrol in a government job, you will have to clear exams that are provided by the public sector. One of the major entrance exams is called the APPSC exam, and it's conducted by the State Government of Andhra Pradesh.

This exam is formulated to test your knowledge in particular areas. To clear the exam, you have to include a good strategy. You have to note that the Group 1 exam is not very different from the UPSC Civil Services exams. Both exams tend to follow similar schemes and syllabus patterns when they conduct the test. But, the APPSC AEE syllabus is more state-related, and the UPSC civil exam will offer you one optional paper.

In this article, we will look at the various steps on cracking the APPSC 2020 exams in the first attempt.

Once you have decided that you want to prepare for APPSC, your end goal will be to secure a good job in the public sector. So, the first thing you have to come up with a plan; this plan should be practical, well-informed, and help you prepare for the upcoming exams.

The first step towards your Government Career:

Clearing any sort of competitive exam can be overwhelming and stressful. Hence, you need to look at it with a clear head and a strong presence of mind. This means you have to work hard and study smart, and most of all, ensure that you don't leave all your exam preparation for the last minute. Procrastinating and leaving your study sessions to a month or two before the final exams will just add to your stress levels.

The APPSC Group 1 exams are divided into three stages; they are Prelims, Mains, and interviews. The prelim examination is a screen test that includes two papers. They constitute a total of 240 marks; you need to remember that this paper has negative marking. Once the prelims are cleared, the candidates can attempt the Main examination.

The mains will involve seven theory papers, they will be written and descriptive type of exams. The qualifying exams will be in two languages, English and Telugu. The final merits will be based on the candidates' overall score in the Main and Interview part of the exam, and they will be out of 835 marks.

Syllabus for APPSC online:

Prelims-

The prelims will include two papers, General studies, and aptitude. The paper will provide you with 120 questions; the questions are objective and bear 120 marks (in total). There is negative marking in this exam, and for every wrong answer, one-third of the mark will be deducted.

The syllabus pattern for Paper 1, General Studies, is as follows:
>> History and culture
>> Indian and Andhra Pradesh economy and planning
>> Constitution, Social Justice, and International Relations
>> Geography
Each section will weigh 30 marks.

Mains:

As mentioned before, the mains exam will include seven papers. The exam has two qualifying papers and five that are for merit ranking; each paper is conducted within 180 minutes and weigh 150 marks. The minimum marks required from the qualifying papers are 40 percent for OC, 30 percent for SC/ST/PH, and 35% for BC.

The syllabus for the merit ranking papers are as follows:
Paper 1- This will include essays on themes and issues of national, regional, and international value
Paper 2- This paper will ask a question pertaining to History, geography, and the culture of India and Andhra Pradesh.
Paper 3- Here, you will be answering questions on law and ethics, politics, governance, and constitution.
Paper 4- Development and economy of Andhra Pradesh and India
Paper 5- This paper will deal with questions about Science, environmental issues, and technology.

What are the opportunities in store for APPSC candidates?

The APPSC online exam offers candidates with many options and opportunities, once they clear the exam. The vacancies may vary in some departments of the state, and this will depend on the notifications. Candidates who have cleared APPSC group 1 test series, can consider applying for the following job posts:
>> Deputy Superintendent of Police (civil)
>> Deputy Collectors in A.P. Civil Service
>> Assistant Prohibition and excise Superintendent in A.P prohibition and Excise Service
>>District B.C. Welfare Officer in A.P B.C. Welfare Service
>> Municipal Commissioner Grade-II in A.P. Municipal Administration Service
>> Commercial Tax Officers in A.P. Commercial Taxes Service
>> District Registrar in A.P. Registration and Stamps Service

How to crack the APPSC exams?

The APPSC test series from AspireBuzz leads to planning and securing a job in the government sector, and it can be a challenging task if there are more candidates and few job vacancies. But, even though the task may seem like a challenge, it does not mean it's impossible. You will have to create a strategy and work towards achieving that goal. You will have to create a actionable strategy that will help you stick with a study plan while achieving your goal.

Strong determination:

This means that you have to be absolutely sure that you want to spend the next two years or so with newspapers and books, and be consistent with your study time. You will have to dedicate at least four hours, every day, to study for the exam. You will have to be practical with your time management and plan your study hours in a smart manner. It's vital that you're disciplined, determined, focused, and dedicated to acing your exam.

Building awareness:

This includes being aware of the examination process, which means you need to know about the eligibility criteria, the qualifications required, exam pattern, updated syllabus, services, and posts, pay scales, allowances, and salary. Do your research and familiarize yourself with the APPSC group 1 test series and APPSC group 2 test series.

Select the right study materials:

APPSC candidates must choose the right books and study resources; this is vital because you will know what to study for the upcoming exams.

Planning:

Once you have done your research and have armed yourself with all the necessary information, it's time to create a plan that is practice and will blend in seamlessly with your daily routine. Firstly, take a look at the syllabus and divide it into sections. This process will help you go through each part of the syllabus thoroughly, and you won't miss out on any topic. Sometimes, your study schedule may not go according to plan, and this may happen due to unavoidable circumstances. Well, no need to worry; you will have to adjust your plan according to the circumstances and follow it accordingly.

Remember to include some leisure time in your schedule, this will help you focus on your studies better, and you will avoid a burnout situation as well.

Practice:

Mistakes happen, and you shouldn't be afraid of committing them because you can learn from them. However, in competitive exams, mistakes can cost you a major portion of marks. For instance, if you receive even one mark less, you won't meet the cut-off and fail the exam. This will lead to waiting for a long time to attempt the exam again. So, practice is key.

You can try solving APPSC online mock test papers that are available on websites like AspireBuzz or even get help from one of their tutors as well. APPSC mock tests help you familiarise yourself with the syllabus and instils confidence before you appear for the finals. Here are suggestions that will help you out to get through the exam as well:
>> If you think that a question doesn't have enough content for you, or if you have trouble understanding it, then it's best to skip it. The exam duration is limited, and you don't want to waste it on one question.
>> You can retain your concepts and theories better by memorizing their keywords. This will make the recollection of the information better, and also help you organize your answers when it comes to a particular question.
>> Spend your initial ten minutes, going through the paper and figuring out how you're going to attempt the questions.
>> It's better that you spend your final ten minutes checking your answers once again, just to ensure that you didn't miss out on anything.

>> Lastly, you need to find ways to calm yourself. This will help you perform better during the exam, and help you keep a clear head as well.

Come up with an examination plan for the Preliminary round:

So, you have gone through the syllabus and covered most of the topics, what next?

Once you have covered all the topics and are familiar with the concepts, it's time to revise what you have already studied. For Paper 1, you will have to start with areas that you consider are your strength and revise them. Once you are done with your strong subjects, it's time to invest more energy into subjects that you consider are your weak areas. It's strongly suggested that you revise government schemes, economic data, and census data because they will help you secure more marks.

Paper 2 requires revision of mathematical formulas, which will be included in the General abilities test. The APPSC online exam will include mathematics, and this requires memorizing vital formulae. So, you can devote some time practising the formulae; additionally, there is a current affairs section in the paper as well, so ensure that you keep up with the latest news up until the exam.

Organize your exam materials:

It's critical that you have everything in place when the exam date is near, this includes one or two pens, the route map towards the exam location, details for transport, hall ticket, identity proof, and so on.

Develop your personality:

This means that you have to be mentally ready to take the exam and adjust your personality accordingly. When you apply the APPSC group 1 exam online, you need to be prepared for the study hours, research material, syllabus content, and the upcoming exam pattern. This requires a clear and focused mind and calm nature. So, try to hone this quality when you're revising the syllabus and not the night before the exam.

Main exam strategy:

Once you clear the preliminary round, it's time to prepare for the main exams. Even if you are waiting for the prelims results, then it's better that you utilize your time by preparing for the mains; considering that you have almost cleared the exam, the preparation will benefit your next attempt as well. You will be going through the same books, and this will help you revise the concepts again, as well. However, this time, the answers will be descriptive, and you will have to prepare accordingly.

It's important to have basic knowledge of most of the topics since you don't have to do an in-depth analysis of everything.

How can you stay updated with current affairs?

APPSC online exams require you to stay updated with the current affairs, and this is crucial if you want to score high marks in a government competitive exam. If you want to be employed as an administrative officer, then your job will involve plenty of decision-making occasions, and these decisions will affect the public and the state. So, it's important that you follow the news on everything that's happening in the country and around the world. If you have limited knowledge of current affairs, then your decision-making ability is limited, as well. Not having enough knowledge of current affairs may not allow you to offer certain benefits to the social and economic conditions of a certain place, as well.

For instance, let's take the current environmental crises. Global warming and climate change are notable events and have an intense impact on the present situation of the country, along with the rest of the world. The extensive use of non-biodegradable materials like plastic have contributed to the damage caused to the ecosystem, and many countries have banned its use as well. As an administrative officer, you get to decide whether you would want to ban the use of plastic in your area or not. If you have to ban it, then you have to create a comprehensive report explaining your decision. This will require knowledge on current affairs regarding the environment, biodiversity, and the recent crises regarding plastic usage.

You can stay updated and keep refreshing your knowledge on current affairs by going through the following resources:

Newspapers: If you want to go by the number one source of current affairs, then you have to refer to newspapers because they are the best news providers in the country. If you don't want to read the newspaper page by page, then you can start off by reading the editorial section. Once you're done reading the editorials and want to move forward, then cover the entire newspaper; focus more on the city news and politics section.

TV/Radio: Go for state-level news channels like ETV news, these channels will cover news that is government-related. If you want to get your dose of current affairs from the radio, you can listen to the AIR spotlight at 9:15 PM; this program offers you an insight on significant issues and informational debates that include various perspectives.

Government reports and programs:  Since the APPSC online exams include a significant current affairs section, you can log on to the PIB Portal and look for all the latest initiatives laid out by the Government. The portal is available in regional languages, and a separate portal will cover the law, budgets, and judgment; it's called PRS India Portal.

Communication and networking skills: Anyone who has ever attempted the APPSC test series knows that the board interviews can be quite intimidating, and it's a different ball game. Once the candidate has cleared the prelims and main rounds, they are called for an interview; the board usually consists of two to five board members depending on the availability.

The board will then judge the candidate based on their personality, how they behave under stressful conditions, leadership qualities, impartial opinions on specific topics, and so on. Hence, it's important that you have excellent communication skills, and you can get your point across in an efficient manner.

Listen carefully:  A good communicator is one who knows how to get their point across but also knows how to listen to the other person. Once you listen to what you're told and respond accordingly, it really shows that you can communicate effectively. So, ensure that you listen to the interviewers carefully before deciding on an answer.

Think before you speak: Unlike writing while speaking, you can't scribble out or erase a wrong answer. Once the words are out of your mouth, they are for everyone to hear. So, you need to ensure that you say the right points and give the correct answer. So, before you answer any question, think about what you're going to say and frame your answer accordingly.

Body language: Non-verbal communication is just as important as verbal communication, and almost sixty percent of your interview process is evaluated according to non-verbal communication; this includes body language and facial expressions. Hence, ensure that you sit straight, don't slouch, maintain eye contact, and control hand gestures when communicating with the interviewer. It's very important that you pay attention to how you carry yourself.

Understanding the audience: In a board interview, the setting will be formal and crisp. So, you must learn to formulate your answers depending on the situation and the audience. Since the audience in an interview will be experienced and highly qualified, your answers must be honest and to the point.

Being polite: There is nothing worse than sounding overconfident and smug at an interview. When you're polite, the interviewer tends to be more interested in what you have to say.

Voice modulation: Pay attention to your voice, and if you feel like you don't have the conventional tone in your voice, then you may want to practice beforehand. Avoid speaking in a monotone manner and utter each word clearly. Change the modulation scale in your voice, especially if you're emphasizing a point.

Vocabulary and language:  This is important when it comes to verbal communication skills, try to expand your vocabulary and language by learning new words. You can do this by reading books, research papers, and listening to podcasts. It's also vital that you pronounce your words correctly, and work on your diction as well. It's okay if your native accent occurs when talking during the interview process, but if the accent is too heavy and gets in the way of your diction and pronunciation, then it's best that you practice beforehand.

Work on your aptitude skills: The Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission syllabus will include various topics, but you should also note that it's important to work on your aptitude skills. With regular practice, you can sharpen your aptitude skills and fine-tune problem-solving capabilities as well. Some of them include:
>> Solve questions daily:
You can take help from many aptitude test books that are available. They will help you understand the concepts and increase your confidence when it comes to solving various types of questions.
>> Practice:
This advice will never get old, and that's because it's true. You will have to practice the problems repeatedly until you get the hang of it and master them.
>> Solve the brain teasers:
Solving puzzles and teasers will help enhance your logical reasoning skills
>> Effective time management:
It's important that you learn how to track time when taking a test; this will allow you to understand and manage how much time you spend on each question. Once you practice monitoring the time spent during the test, solving the problems for the final APPSC exam will be less stressful.

Conclusion:

The APPSC test series witnesses lakhs of applicants every year, but only a chosen few manage to ace the exams and make it the top. You can ace these exams if you start preparing as soon as possible, have a consistent study schedule, are dedicated and committed to passing the test. You will have to put in your best efforts and wait for positive results.
